Screw Piles

What are Screw Piles?

Screw piles are known by many different names. Sometimes they’re also called:

  • screw piers
  • helical piles
  • helical piers
  • steel screw-in foundations
  • helical anchors
  • screw anchors
  • screw foundations.

All of these terms refer to a type of steel pipe that is used to build deep foundations for your house or building, and act as ground anchors. Screw piles come in very handy when building a new house and at times when restumping or reblocking an existing house.

How screw piles work

Screw piles work by being wound into the ground, in a similar way that a screw can be wound into wood. To install screw piles, earth moving equipment will be needed that has enough power to wind them into the ground to the depth required for strength and stability.
